Yale Road Historic Corridor

Yale Road stretches from one side of Chilliwack to the other, running roughly parallel to the Trans Canada Highway. Parts of the road pre-date the 1858 gold rush.

A drive along the corridor will take you beside the ancient Sto:lo village and fish processing sites, beside some of the oldest farms in the area and into the heart of the City at Five Corners. The route also includes the communities of Greendale, Cheam and Rosedale which sprang up during the 19th Century.

In the early 1900s, the Canadian Pacific Railway decided a route was necessary to link the Kootenay Region with the BC coast by rail. The railway was built over three mountain ranges. Othello-Quintette Tunnels

These abandoned railway tunnels form a stunning setting.
A leisurely walk on the abandoned railway grade will take you through the tunnels and the spectacular Coquihalla Canyon gorge.

Note: Flashlights are useful inside the tunnels. The park is open from April to October.

Designed by engineer Andrew McCulloch, the tunnels were built from 1911 to 1916 to complete the Kettle Valley Railway.
